David J. West writes dark fantasy and weird westerns because the voices in his head won’t quiet until someone else can hear them. He is a great fan of sword & sorcery, ghosts and lost ruins, so of course he lives in Utah with his wife and children.

British Gangsters Saved My Life
Posting this because (I haven't posted anything all year) and I do like Vinnie Jones, reminds me how much I still want to finish "Gods & Robbers" this year, my British gangster inspired fantasy- think maybe a Sword & Sorcery SNATCH type thing.
An S&S-Snatch story sounds awesome to me. For years I've been trying myself to figure out a way to do an S&S hardboiled noir story while keeping it in second world fantasy instead of urban or dark fantasy, but I've not pulled it off yet. Maybe you can lead the way.
I clearly need to improve my knowledge of British gangster films. I love noir, so whoever writes a S&S hardboiled noir story will get my money. (Unless I write it first.)
Speaking of Brit gangster flicks, though an American film, "The Limey" starring Terrence Stamp has always held a warm place in my heart. It's kind of a slow movie, but there's a scene where Stamp gets the crap kicked out of him at a warehouse, once thrown on his butt outside he calmly takes out a pistol, marches back in and shoots nearly everyone there. The violence is not witnessed on the screen, but for some reason that little scene shook me up the first time I saw it, very realistic in showing the quickness of brutality.
Ty- I love 'The Limey', I was even cracking jokes about my friend, Mr. Goodwrench and I getting into some trouble just the other day. (Hope you remember the reference)

ReplyDeleteThanks Ty, its something I've had boiling in the back of my brain for awhile now and I really want to get it out this year.
ReplyDeleteI'd buy it! I'd read it!
ReplyDeleteI love Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels (and other Brit gangster films)
p.s. - I just got back to watch the video. Leave it to the Brits to feature thugs in a PSA. That was great! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've seen some good Brit Gangster movies.
ReplyDeleteMe too Paul-most of my non-fantasy favorites the last decade or so were Brit gangster movies.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate you dropping by Charles-I know how your schedule is.

ReplyDeleteThanks Keith, I'll try and beat you to it.
