This You Can Trust

Just got the Atlantean sword from a local crypt and had to teach my son the Riddle of Steel. He can barely pick it up, but he'll get there. Then later at night his older brother watched the old animated Lord of the Rings and I had the delight of his first reaction to Gandalf and the Balrog. He said, "Dad! The Balrog it has a whip and it took Gandalf and he fell and he said 'Fly-You Fools!'and now he's dead!"
That was awesome to see his first take on a classic.

I just found this while I was pondering teaching my son all that befalls you on the Tree of Woe and had to share. Basil Poledouris was a GENIUS, this was performed only 4 months before his death.

This was truly a score worthy of the source material. This is some of my absolute favorite music to write too. It has a magic that haunts and grips your soul, no wonder so many other movie soundtracks borrow it for promo's. We will miss Mr. Poledouris.

Me messing round the backyard, notice Cimmeria in the background.

Your son looks so excited! Don't you just love it when kids get so enthusiastic about things?

How heavy is that sword?

Just awesome.

Not to give you any ideas, but a few turns of the Wheel of Pain will build him up enough to wield that sword :).

Thanks Brian, he probably thinks he is on the Wheel of Pain when I ask him to clean his room.

By the way, that is still the reigning champion of movie soundtracks. There has never been one better, at least to my knowledge.

Poledouris' stuff is amazing. You like Hans Zimmer? They have a similar feel for me. I used to go to bed every night when a senior in HS listening to his stuff.

Brian-absolutely. Was I not positive enough on my endorsement of his work?

Mary-yeah, I like a lot of his stuff too-Dark Knight, Gladiator, Pirates, Last Samurai, Batman Begins etc

You were quite positive, David. I just wanted to repeat that point for the non-converts out there :).

Elizabeth-he is 3, will be 4 in July.

Angie-Thanks I really hope to have a distinct voice that people will like.

Brian-I love his music, I always perk up whenever I'm writing to it, such brilliant imagery comes with those powerful notes. Poledouris was one of a kind.

Nice sword there. That's alwasy cool to see our children sharing interest in the things that give us joy. I'm sure your boy will be hacking and slashing with that sword in no time... My advice: buy some good knee guards. :P

Debi-???

Thanks Michelle

Void-I will do that, I'm already overdue for a codpiece.

Dude, you find the coolest stuff. That is one wicked looking sword. I want one like that for one of my book covers. So cool. Looks like your raising your son properly. Kudos, good man.

but then i think, "What am I? A Barbarian??"

nephite blood spartan heart said...

Thanks Carolina, swords are awesome.

Karlene-I appreciate it, glad you submitted something too.

Debi-you are my lamentations of the women.

I have nothing to add except that the sword looks amazing and I WANT one.

All I have in one of those sword-in-a-canes. So not the same.

Kim-its primal and barbaric but I love swinging three foot of steel around.

I have always felt that Poledouris' soundtracks were a close second behing Queens classics Flash Gordon and Highlander
