1 Year Anniversary

It was one year ago today that I was offered my first contract for my novel Heroes of the Fallen and it's been getting some great reviews thus far-thank you.

So in this last year I have made a lot more friends and acquaintances, won a short story contest for Song of Saphir and had my second entry Covenant of the Scalp come in a very close second. These should see publication late this summer or early fall-wish I had a cover to post-but soon enough I am sure.

Had a positive blurb of mine placed on the back cover of Daron Fraley's speculative novel The Thorn.

I also sold Whispers of the Goddess to Rogue Blades Entertainment for their coming anthology Roar of the Crowd.

I am also finishing a short piece that I have high hopes will be accepted by Ricasso Press for inclusion in another action-oriented anthology to be released later this summer-Through Blood And Iron.

I was asked to present the Best Novel by a New Author Award for the Whitney Awards this year, very pleased that Dan Wells won and also pleased that John Brown won the Speculative category. It's been great getting to know both of them.

Also at the moment I am putting the final touches on my outcast Spartan novel Bless the Child, rewrites/revisions for Blood of Our Fathers (the sequel to Heroes of the Fallen, then to finish my Porter Rockwell novel Dance the Ghost with Me, write a tale for the Irreantum contest, a pulp-ladden yarn for the Monsters & Mormons antho, even though that won't see the light until next year. And then finish an as-yet-untitled fantasy novel for one of the big publishing houses. And I will probably try and throw a number of short stories at other things along the way.

Thanks to everyone for reading my stuff, following the blog and just being an audience-it's what writers are suckers for. Looking back it has been a great first year for me and should be an even better one looking ahead.

Thank you Amalia, I just came to the head a year ago that IF this is what I want--I had to get to it and make it happen.

That's some productivity right there. I'm looking forward to reading your Monsters & Mormons submission.

Thank you mary, glad someone noticed.

It's coming William, I told Th. I hope this becomes at least a semi-annual project, so much potential.

Sounds like a fantastic year. Congratulations! (I am reading your book now, but I read pretty slow, so be patient with me.)

That's alright Angie, I haven't been reading anything as fast as I have meant to either.

Busy year David! Congrats on all the appearances, short and long, and all the work accomplished and begun.

A "fantasy novel for one of the big publishing houses" huh? :)

(Sorry, first post was garbled)

What I love about this post is how it gets across that this writing gig is incredibly hard work. Not everyone outside the field realizes that. Heck, for that matter, a lot of in the field (or trying to be) tend to forget it.

Congrats on your current and future successes. You've definitely earned them.

Finished the book a few days ago. # 2 needs to be sooner than later. You did a great job.

Krista-thanks.

Jason-I'm very excited for the Heroic shorts and opportunities I can do for you-but I have a fantasy side project I want to throw at TOR, Baen or PYR-we'll see-sure doesn't mean I'm not excited and honored to be doing things with RBE now and in the future.

I appreciate that Kim-especially when I start kicking myself feeling like I am not working hard enough already.

Karen-thanks-I don't think I am but thanks anyway-see you tomorrow.

Thanks P jr. - but who are you? Sorry, I don't know.

'twas only a curiosity posting, good David. I'm glad your targeting them and I promise not to think less of you ;)

Jason-alright, cuz I know I won't lose that S&S edge even within a epic universe.

That's kinda what I think of Heroes of the Fallen already-but I'll let you judge that.

Obviously you've been WRITING. That's what it takes. Long long hours and determination, and honing the skill. Congratulations!! I would love to read some of your poetry. I'm down to scratch this month but have decided I'm going to charge it to get Heroes so I can join in the discussion.

Thank you Ann. I haven't been posting much poetry here lately because it seemed to get the least amount of response-maybe I will again soon. But I did manage to get a couple of poems into Heroes of the Fallen as well as some of the lyrical things that remained in the text as well. So there are in there.
