Roar of the Crowd ~ R.I.P.

After waiting a couple of years for something to come of a tale that I was particularly fond of, I recieved the email that Rogue Blades Entertainment had to concede that Roar of the Crowd is dead. The Editor Jason Waltz has been overwhelmed with a number of issues and could not keep the project on hold continually.
(Ironic I posted this was still forthcoming last week on my birthday.)

So I now have Whispers of the Goddess back.

Looking it over and giving it a reread after sitting for so long, I definetly want to polish it up, not a lot but some. I am proud of what I put together in a white heat weekend to make the deadline for the antho and I was excited to be sharing the TOC with quite a few of people I call friends now among them...

Mbogo Returns ~ Milton Davis
Carcass and Mallet ~ Ty Johnston
Race to Dragonhead Rock ~ Bill Ward
For the Light ~ Gustavo Bondoni
Spirit of the Maya ~ Robert Waters
Winter’s Game ~ Kate Martin
The Last Refuge of Piyamaradu ~ Ryan Harvey
Up the Gladiators! ~ David Bischoff
Panathenaic ~ Bruce Durham
Naumachia Magic ~ Alva Roberts
Hard Crossing at Luhinmov Ford ~ Adrian Simmons
Love and Revolution ~ Jeff Draper
The Turul Spreads its Wings ~ Boglárka Takács
Whispers of the Goddess ~ David J. West
Ulemet’s Wager ~ Lyn Perry
The Dream Horn ~ Howard Andrew Jones
Shini-tai ~ C.L. Werner
Foreword ~ Michael Ehart

I'm thinking now that I'll likely throw my hat into the eRing and release the novella as an ebook. That means polish, polish, edit, edit, edit and a fantastic cover to boot. I'm gonna make a goal of september, just to have plenty of time to get some good help on all facets of this project.

I hate to hear that for a number of reasons, including but not limited to a number of authors will have to find new homes for their stories,I'd preordered the book as part of a package, and it looked like it would be really good. Do publish the story. I'd like to read it.

I have a story with Assassins plus one under consideration for the fundraising anthology that Jason announced last year, Stealth. I haven't received any emails about those. Did your email address any of the other anthologies or projects?

No this was specifically to say that ROTC was dead. I have been told that there is a possibility that Black Gate may have a hand in helping get the Challenge anthos' Discovery-that I'm in, & Stealth and Assassin pubbed.
Lets hope so. Its too bad that Jason has been so buried. RBE was among my favorites when it came to current S&S works.

I considered sending my story out to other markets but I know it would be a tough sell at its length 12K or so, just a bit too long for most of the fantasy markets and a bit too S&S for me to believe some of the bigger fantasy pubs would take it. Plus I'd like to see how well I can do in the new e-markets.

Too bad about the antho. But good luck putting it out as an e-book! I'm putting out three novellas next month. Fun, fun!

That was my understanding about Assassins and the Challenge Anthos, but the last I heard about Assassins was that those stories were supposed to have been available through Black Gate a few months ago.

And I agree with you that Rogue Blades was one of the best sources of S&S. I hope Jason can get out from under everything that's buried him and get some traction on his other projects.

And good luck with your epublishing. I'm going to try to get a couple of things out sometime in the next month or tow.

Thanks Angie, best of luck with all your Defender projects.

Keith, yeah everyone else (our mutual friends) has been doing it and its actually come around to the point that I am preferring the indie stuff to the Big 6 pubs.

Yeah, I'm where I prefer the indie stuff to the Big 6 by about 2 to 1. There's a greater variety in length (more novellas and short novels) as well as content.

I hear you Keith. Its funny when I look at what was popular years ago (novels well under 70K) and where it is now (you need to be above 100K just to submit) perhaps the ebook will push things back to the natural tipping point of where most people prefer book length???

Sorry to hear about the book but it does happen a lot in the small press. I've had it happen to me more than once, including for a story in my latest ebook collection.

Yep, I understand that so I'll make the best of things and give it my first foray into ebooks.
