Quite a few years ago I heard there was a small town in Utah with a biblical name that had a number of Bigfoot sightings. Supposedly back in the early days of Utah, gunfighter and bodyguard to Brigham Young, Lot Smith saw it and shot at it-he missed and was told that it was best to leave it alone.
I was told some first hand stories about the area and the expieriences of a couple of hunters that had run-ins with the Thing.
So why wouldn't I go and check it out? I did.
It was an out of the way town with a very small population. I didn't get there until late at night. A friend and I were the only people on the road that night and we went through town and on up a dirt road into the mountains crossing a snaking creek perhaps a half dozen times. When the road ended we camped. We sat up late staring at the fire under the wheeling stars and told ghost stories until the flames died.
When I slept I dreamt Bigfoot was there watching us. Standing just a few feet away towering over us, watching.
I awoke in the morning still feeling like I was being watched and I was.
A pair of deer stood twenty feet away staring silently.
After breakfast we wandered through the area and found no sign of anything out of the ordinary except the feeling of being watched and the thickness of the woods denoting a place where anything could hide.
Any strange tales out there?

no, but I'm dying to know, where on earth was this??
The mountains above Ophir. You take the loop from Eagle mountain to Toole and its about halfway behind the Oquirh's.
Once I was taking a walk by my grandma's house, and the road forked. One fork went into a neighborhood, and the other went into these dark woods.
I wanted to go into the woods because I always took the neighborhood route. But as I got closer, I got a really creepy feeling like there was evil in there.
So I went into the neighborhood instead. When I went back to my grandma I asked her what was in those woods and she said, "Don't go in there. Your grandpa and I drove in there one Sunday and we had only been in there for five minutes, and it felt so creepy we locked the doors and I made him turn around."
You've asked a hard question! I've been trying to think up a response.
When I was in middle school my little sister and I were terrified of a stranger making noises outside our back door. We watched a shadow move around in a steady rhythm and heard repetitive footsteps to match the eerie shadow. We were convinced an insane murder was plotting to break in.
But. No. It was my mom. Doing her step aerobics without the music. Let me tell you we felt like such fools.
Wow, L, we must have been commenting at the same time. Creepy.
I had almost the same thing M when I was a kid. I woke up early in the morning to this bizarre rythmic tapping on the floor above my bedroom. It creeped me out so I grabbed the closest weapon I could find-an ax to go and deal with this obvious maniac (obvious to a 12 year old)
It was my sister doing her early morning aerobics. I yelled at her to never wake me up so early again.
The nerve! Exercise!
It woke me up and I am cranky in the morning-early bird I am not-serious night owl when I am writing.
My son claims that Pleasant Grove has three highly *haunted* historical spots. 1)the main street theater. 2) The PG high school auditorium. 3) Kawinis Park at the top of 200 South. I don't know where he hears these things--you know, being that he's in high school. But the stories he tells sound interesting and well thought out. Wanna investigate?
Nichole
I had heard about the theater but not the high school auditorium or the park.
All of this does give me ideas for a YA series though.
