Angie's Out of This World Adventure Giveaway

I'm helping my friend Angie Lofthouse with her blog contest by hosting her story "Highway Songs".

"Highway Songs" appeared in Residential Aliens in December 2009.

When trucker Andy Shumway's truck is hacked on the Shipping Highway, he expects to be robbed or worse. He doesn't expect to get swept up into a quest to save the life of a little girl, or to witness the fulfillment of ancient Mayan prophecy.

To enter The Out of This World Adventure giveaway, click on the story title to read the story, then come back here and answer the following question in the comments:

What are the most impressive ancient ruins you've visited?

Your comment will give you one entry in the grand prize drawing "grand prize drawing" (includes an Amazon gift card, free book and other fun stuff!), plus one commenter on this post will win a Milky War bar. Mmmm. Include your email address, if it isn't on your profile, so we can contact the winners.

Be sure to visit the other stops on the Adventure and good luck!

It's hard for me to pick the most impressive ancient ruins I've been too-and I'm honestly limited by having never been off of North America - (Hawaii doesn't count)
but
Casa Grande, Arizona was pretty cool, as was Mesa Verde; the great kiva in the Aztec ruins of N.M. and some of the Moundbuilder sites in the eastern U.S. (I need to visit more of these I've missed too many) but I'm probably gonna have to say Teotihuacan was the most impressive.

Angie-you knew that Teotihuacan was Tullan the Golden in Heroes of the Fallen right?

I don't know if I've visited any really ancient ruins. I'd like to go to Pompeii one day, though. No, wait -- we went to Bath one year before the kids were born, and saw the Roman baths there. Very impressive, even with all the other tourists getting in the way. I would have liked to wade into the pool there and swim a few laps, but oh well.

Thanks, David. I did know that about your book. That's cool! I've never left the United States myself, so the most impressive ruins I've seen are those in Chaco Canyon, where the story is set! I like Mesa Verde too. Thanks for the comments, everyone and good luck in the contest!

Love this story!! Hmm... I don't think I've ever visited any ancient ruins either. But my husband and I are planning a trip to Peru and see the ruins there!!

Coolest ancient ruins I've been to? The temple and pyramids at Saqqara in Egypt. Everyone goes to Giza and they're neat, but if you ever get to Cairo, make sure to find your way to Dashur and Saqqara as well!

I love Angie's stories!

I've been to Mesa Verde too, and it was pretty neat. In Spain I went to a huge ruin of a castle in Figueras, which was pretty darn impressive, though I'm not sure that a few hundred years old qualifies it as "ancient".
Enjoyed the story. Fun read.

Well, I've been to Serpent Mound in Ohio...I've never been out west. Gosh. Maybe I need to broaden my horizons!

How great was that?
The only ruins were in Rome (discussed over the best pizza pie ever) :-)

Loving the stories, Angie!

The ones in AZ are cool.
Loved Cozumel, Mexico. So many buildings intact and still standing.
And Turkey! I had no idea the stadium where Paul in the New Testament taught were in Ephesus. Duh. Ephesians? LOVED that area. So much history and architecture. Blew me away.

I enjoyed the story. It was very interesting. I've been to many of the ruins in New Mexico, but don't recall the names. I really enjoyed Mesa Verde, in Colorado. I think I could go there every year and never tire of the ruins.

My family tends to visit mostly living and modern sites, but I have visited the old Indian caves in Walnut Canyon in Arizona. They were pretty cool, although the people must have been tiny because even at 7 I had to duck to enter some of them. :)

Stonehenge would have to be the most impressive ruins I've visited. And I loved the story.

Awesome story! The most impressive ancient ruins I've seen are Stonehenge, and Avebury. Avebury is impressive like Stonehenge, but more intimate because it is less well known and you can actually walk up and touch some of the stones which continue from the park through farmer's fields into the distant horizon . . . and it's a fairly short drive from Stonehenge.
